How can I build more leg muscle?

I’m not trying to lose weight because I’m pretty skinny already, but I want to gain some muscle. I can’t go to a gym and I don’t have any expensive equipment. Will running help build muscle or will it just make me skinnier? What are some exercises I can do (preferably at home) to tone my legs?
